I’m pretty sure we’ve all wanted to help another misfortunate soul at least once in our lives. Whether with finances, clothes or food – there has always been that sympathy urging us to give to the poor in return for a smile only.

What if I told you that you can do so in a fun and creative way? It’s a win-win situation: you are enjoying the fundraising and the needy are benefiting from the profit!

Here’s a list of things you could do to build your own life experiences while helping others too:

  • Sales. All sorts of sales. Car boot sales of all the things you don’t want. Bake sales of your own handmade (or bought) cakes at a cheap price. Even art sales, if you are good at art/calligraphy, why not make a collection and sell them?

  • Adrenaline rush. This is something I myself am taking part in soon. All you need is any extreme sport of your choice (I’m going for bungee jumping!), any charity of your choice and a few sponsors and you’re ready to go. You can choose from bungee jumping, abseiling, paragliding, or even skydiving as long as you discuss it with the desired charity trustees.

  • Group fun is the one! Something you can consider as group activities such as paintballing, go-karting, cruising, camping or anything that involves a group. Book early so it’s cheaper for you, then let each member of your group pay an amount to take part. If you want, you can also ask friends, family and acquaintances to sponsor your activities!

  • Specific events. Invest in a venue and refreshments for a specific night and invite as many people to attend as you want. There should be an entry fee, but don’t scare everybody away with high prices! Keep ticket pricing and simple, unless buyers want to donate extra.

  • Bring it on! All sorts of competitions for all ages. Examples are art competitions, races, poetry contests and anything of your choice. I’ve arranged a football tournament once at school, and a lot of money was raised! There will be a small fee to enter the competitions, and the winners get a prize.

  • A service you can offer. If you have a given talent you want to take advantage of, do so! If you know another language, teach others and charge them but anything you collect goes to charity. If you know how to design henna, go for it girls! You won’t lose anything, and others will gain.

As I said, there are endless options as to what you could do to help raise money for the needy. In my opinion, select a few charities, not just one, to raise money for and set yourself a clearly defined goal. Because I’m a beginner, my goal is to raise a minimum of £120 since the price to bungee jump is already £60 – but the more the merrier!

Feel free to add your own ideas and go wild with your imagination, as long as you raise a decent amount of money to help the millions of sufferers in the world.

I hope I have given you some sparks of ideas on how to be active and useful in the community while at the same time carrying out part of your purpose in life.
