Brain disorders are everywhere. You can be young, old, happy, or sad – whoever you are, wherever you come from, and whatever you have experienced, a mental illness can hit you. Some disorders are well-known, such as OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), Schizophrenia, Bipolarity, Compulsive Lying and Anxiety Issues, among others. But some, are weird, in a way that we would never imagine their existence.
1. Alien Hand Syndrome
This neurological disorder causes a patient’s hand to take on a life of its own and act of its own accord. It is also called Dr. Strangelove Syndrome.
2. Cotard’s Syndrome
This is when a person believes that he or she is dead despite those around them, telling them they are not. Some also believe they do not exist at all.
3. Boanthropy
Boanthropy is a delusional disorder where a person believes oneself to be a cow or an ox.
4. Autophagia Syndrome
It refers to the condition of having an impulse to eat yourself, or parts of yourself.
5. Fregoli Delusion
It is a disorder in which a person believes that different people are in fact a single person who changes appearances.
6. Alice in Wonderland Syndrome
It is a neurological condition in which a patient’s sense of body image, space, and/or time are distorted, resulting in such things as confusing the shape and size of one’s body parts.
7. Foreign Accent Syndrome
It is a condition where the sufferer speaks their native language as if they had a foreign accent.
8. Stendhal Syndrome
It is characterized by a physical and an emotional anxiety up to the level of a panic attack, dissociative experiences, confusion, and even hallucinations when an individual is exposed to an experience of great personal significance, such as viewing art.
9. Trichotillomania
A disorder that causes the sufferer to feel the urge to literally pull their hair out; scalp hair, facial hair, eyelashes, even pubic hair.
10. Hybristophilia
This is when a person is sexually attracted to people who have committed some form of outrage, such as cheating, lying or a crime.
