On the 17th of November at the Frontline Club in London, Shout Out UK launched Brexit: A Youth Perspective.
Brexit: A Youth Perspective consists of various policy proposals and suggestions, submitted by young people between the ages of 15-25, and sourced through Shout Out UK’s youth readership, in light of Brexit.
What should Brexit look like? What actions do the Government, or Opposition, need to take now that the Referendum is over? Brexit: A Youth Perspective answers some of these questions – and more – from the perspective of young people now having to contend with a post-Brexit Britain.
The main policy areas touched upon in the booklet are the economy, business, migration, the environment, education and social justice.
Matteo Bergamini, CEO and Founder of Shout OUK, says: ‘Regardless of how you voted, Brexit is happening. It is time we listen to the next generation and include it in this very vital conversation, the negotiation to leave the EU.
Politics is an eternal struggle to improve the society we live in and if we fail to engage and listen to the next generation, we risk losing everything humanity has spent decades fighting and struggling to create’.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES:
Fatima Manji, Channel 4 News
Fatima Manji is a News Correspondent at Channel 4 News. She’s mostly out on the road covering a variety of stories – both domestic and international. In the past year she’s reported on the migrant crisis in Europe, interviewed Grime artists and award winning novelists and joined Boris Johnson on the Vote Leave bus to cover the EU referendum campaigns.
Having been with the programme since 2012, her exclusives for Channel 4 News have included securing interviews with the secretive Saudi royal family, telling the story of a survivor of an ISIS massacre from Iraq and the first indepth interview with Britain’s youngest MP Mhairi Black.
Fatima also occasionally presents the programme in the studio, debates she’s chaired include the topics of counter terrorism, immigration and the NHS.
In 2015, Fatima hosted the first ever alternative General Election debate featuring all party youth leaders for Channel 4, in conjunction with Shout Out UK.
She’s won a number of awards for her journalism and was also a finalist for the Royal Television Society’s Young Journalist of the Year.
Richard Brooks, Vice-President, National Union of Students
Richard Brooks has served as the elected NUS Vice President (Union Development) since April 2015. His priorities in NUS include governance reform, student volunteering and societies, a positive reputation for students’ unions and building student representation in further education. Richard campaigned enthusiastically for students to vote Remain and has been vocal about the need to address generational divides inflamed by the referendum result.
Prior to this Richard was President of Hull University Union, having enjoyed and been challenged by a series of important developments for the organisation. He describes his love for the city of Hull as “weirdly powerful” and as HUU President Richard campaigned on issues including housing, opportunities and transport.
Outside of the student movement Richard enjoys watching Liverpool Football Club and playing the Ukulele, not necessarily at the same time.
