In the build up to the first round of the French Presidential Election this Saturday a tragic event has occurred tonight on the Champs-Elysees.

We will be covering events live as they unfold, here is what we know so far:

  • Two attackers were involved in the shooting
  • Two policeman were reportedly ‘targeted’
  • Amongst the casualty list is one police officer as well as one of the attackers
  • The attack is not being considered a terrorist attack
    • Theory that it might be considered an attempted armed robbery
  • Donald Trump has labelled the shooting as a ‘terrorist attack’
    • French Interior Ministry: Too early to label this a terrorist attack
      • As of now it is a security incident
  • BBC News: Video Footage of bus being pulled over by six police vehicles on the Champs-Elysees earlier today
  • Update: Shots fired in a new location near the Champs Elysees
  • Second policeman involved remains in a critical condition
  • Home of one of the attackers has been searched by police
  • Reports of further gunfire was a false report
  • Unconfirmed reports of a third policemen being injured in the attack
  • Casualty Update: One police officer killed, two police officers are seriously injured
  • President François Hollande is due to speak after holding a crisis meeting with Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve and Interior minister Matthias Fekl
  • Arrest warrant put out for second suspect
  • Interior Ministry Spokesman Pierre-Henry: ‘On the face of it, the officers were deliberately targeted’
  • ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Champs-Elysees
  • ISIS statement has named the attacker as Belgian fighter Abu Yusuf
