Trauma and mental health issues in Palestine are more complex than in the west. We speak to Dr Caesar Hakim, a Palestinian citizen of Israel.

For Dr Caesar Hakim, it’s almost a three-hour drive from Haifa, where he is a Palestinian citizen of Israel, to the West Bank where many Palestinians live under occupation and strict rule. He knows that trauma and mental health issues in Palestine are more complex than in the west. He also sees that within layers of political, cultural and religious conflicts is a community of people suffering from complex trauma which he believes he can be of help to.

Complex trauma isn’t easy to understand but once you do, you can see how it affects a country that’s caught itself in a conflict. You will also see how facing these mental health issues could be a way to resolve it.
