The selection of the England squad has been at the center of rugby discussions over the last few weeks.  This time of year is a topical time for rugby discussion as the autumn internationals are played but this particular selection has been heated. This is due to the snubbing of talented players and injuries that have devastated the set-up that Jones has been building towards since he took over in 2016.

Danny Cipriani has not been chosen by Jones despite proving his worth, even being voted premiership player of the month in September. The player had been arrested for assault and resisting arrest in August and was fined by the court, however, the RFU took no further action. Fans now think Jones is punishing Cipriani for this offence, especially as Jones blamed the Gloucester man’s form as the reason not to choose him. The loose head account tweeted saying:

‘Eddie Jones has omitted Danny Cipriani from his latest England squad (ridiculous) but has included [Chris] Ashton (banned) and Teo [Ben] (yet to play)’.

This tweet highlights Jones’ contradictory actions by selecting two players who have displayed bad form or who have yet to prove themselves.

Cipriani’s selection is getting more desperate for fans due to how many of the A-grade players in Jones’ squad are now injured. Billy Vunipola, Make Vunipola, Joe Launchbury and Chris Robshaw have all picked up injuries in recent weeks, meaning that they cannot face the international sides in the autumn. In these incidents England need the experience that Cipriani has.

Jones attended the Gloucester v Castres game at the weekend, many believing this was Cipriani’s last attempt to display why he should be in the England squad. The game could not have been executed better by Cipriani, he displayed his kicking skills and game management. It would add insult to the many injuries England are facing at the moment if Cipriani is not chosen. The player has been punished by the courts and by the head England coach, it is now time to put the team first and add top class players into the mix.

Will Jones admit he was wrong and pick Cipriani? Fans are all waiting in anticipation to find out.
