There are a lot of bad habits we all seem to pick up during our lifetimes, and these habits can make things hard for us when we are trying to live our life in a healthy and happy way. Now that we are coming to the end of the winter and spring is just around the corner it is time that we looked into bettering ourselves this year in some really simple ways. Here are some of the good habits that we should all try to add into our lives this year for better living.


Further your career

Your career might have reached a standstill at some point during the recent months and this is something which you can either do something about and move up, or do nothing and stay in one place. As humans we tend to have a tomorrow mentality where we think about doing something more than we try to actually make time to do it. Instead of procrastinating this year and doing nothing with your career, you need to think about taking that Online RN to BSN course you saw last week, or asking your boss to take you on some training. All of these things are important for you to do to help you get ahead in life.

Eat more fruit

Fruit is the best food you can eat if you ever want to have a simple snack which is also healthy. Fruit and vegetables contain so many amazing vitamins and minerals which our body needs, and this is why eating more fruit is a simple habit to add to your day. If you can eat 2-3 pieces of fruit each day this is a huge step in the right direction and you will find that you don’t crave as much sugar as a result.

Drink water

Water is more important for the body than pretty much everything else and this is why it is super important for you to take the time to drink at least 2 litres of water every day for your body. Water is used to lubricate and plump up the cells, help transport chemicals around the body and flush out harmful toxins which may otherwise hurt us. Make sure that you try your best to stay hydrated every day and drink as much water as you can handle.

Save money

Saving money is something we should all try and do this year for our own benefit as well as to benefit our family and our friends. If you are struggling to stay afloat financially it is super important that you open up a savings account and place a small amount of money into it every single month. The main reason we need to do this is because we need to have an emergency fund if anything ever happens to us. Let’s say tomorrow you had an accident and ended up unable to work, what would you do? Would you have money to live on during your recovery or would you be totally broke? These situations are unlikely to happen, however, they are important to prepare for nonetheless.

Quit smoking

Smoking is one of those habits which a lot of us take up at some point during our lives for one reason or another, but it is a habit which is incredibly dangerous for our body. Make sure that if you want to stay healthy and live a long life that you make actions to quit smoking this year. It could be that you take up nicotine patches and gum, or perhaps you and a friend help each other to go cold turkey and avoid cigarettes altogether. Quitting isn’t always going to be easy but it is worth the work you put into it!

Get more sleep

Sleep is essential for our body and our mental state, and it is super important that we take the time to go to sleep earlier and wake up a little later at the weekend. Sleep is a process our body goes through in order to rest the body and allow the body to repair any injuries we may have, fight off bugs and invasions and also to detox the body of toxins. We need sleep to live and it is super important that you get at least 7-8 hours every single night. Try turning off the TV and phones a little before you plan to go to bed because this can help us to relax and get ready for a long night sleep.
