Michael Shirley

(They/Them)

I’m Michael, 18 years old, living and studying at the University of Exeter, reading Politics & International Relations BSc. From climate change to automation, human rights and immigration, I’m profoundly interested in the political challenges which face our world. But with the increasing sense of inertia with our political system, for far too long, politicians have sidelined the views of young people. I passionately believe in empowering the voices of young people in order to create a world which works better for all of us. Previously, I Co-founded and led my secondary school’s Eco Council: our mission was to unleash student’s power today to transform tomorrow. Ultimately, that mission starts by making sure our voices count. In my time at YPDG, my commitment to you is simple: I will passionately represent the opinions of young people – influencing current and future government policy, so it works better for us.
