On the 5th of July 2018, Shout Out UK ran an inspiring event with one goal in mind — to ‘hack’ the problem Parliament has with the lack of representation of women, particularly those who are BAME or LGBTQ+. The hackathon provided women from all walks of life to come together and to think critically about some of the most pressing barriers around female political participation and to design solutions for these barriers. The audience, divided into eight smaller groups, then presented their ideas for improving female participation in politics to a panel of judges and the best idea was awarded £100 to bring their project into fruition. We were joined by some of the most inspiring female political figures in contemporary politics – former Leader of the House of Commons Andrea Leadsom and Shadow Leader of the House of Commons Valerie Vaz.
