About SOUK

Founded by Matteo Bergamini in 2015, Shout Out UK was launched to fix the lack of political education in schools by bringing young people together to talk and learn about politics.

Shout Out UK (SOUK) is now a multi-award winning education platform and creative social enterprise. Fusing education and tech with film production and animation ensures we create world-class programmes on Media & Political Literacy and high impact Democratic Engagement campaigns.

Our Mission

Shout Out UK is on a mission to protect and amplify democracy by ensuring Political Literacy education is as widespread as possible, and available to all citizens in and out of school, regardless of their socio-economic background, ethnicity, or gender.

The UN declared a global infodemic in 2020. Until young people are given the tools to identity disinformation for themselves, extreme views will thrive and democracy will suffer. Let’s make political literacy available to everyone.

Our Awards

  • Democracy Pioneer 2020, Awarded by Nesta
  • Youth-Led Award 2018, Awarded by The British Youth Council.
  • Harrow Business Den Winner of 2016, Awarded by Harrow Council.

SILVER OONYU, Uganda
Silver received a Master of Education in Vision Studies at the University of Pittsburgh in 2012, and holds a Graduate Certificate in African Studies from the same University, in Pennsylvania USA. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education specializing in History and Religious Studies from Makerere University in Uganda. Silver Francis Oonyu has been teaching blind children in Uganda since 13 April 1995 when the Ministry of Education and Sports sent him to Amuria Secondary School, in the rural heart of Teso Sub Region in Eastern Uganda. In 2014, Silver Francis Oonyu founded the Silver Memorial Inclusive Learning Centre, or SMILE, which is one the first Inclusive Schools in Soroti Uganda.
Oonyu is a strong believer in Justice in Education for blind children in Uganda and wherever they may be. Politics and the management of society is what all the youth and young adults have to take interest in for political, social, cultural, religious and economic reasons! No young person should shy away from the politics of today, be they in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa, in order to secure their future. Besides that, there is a need to cultivate peace without which there is no development of any kind. I could not work on my firm in Uganda in 1986 for example while the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) was abducting children in Uganda in the name of creating a Uganda where the Ten Commandments of the Bible will be used as a cornerstone for the governance of Uganda. It’s better to answer the important questions of the day by participating actively in politics.
