Kerrie Portman, Local Hero and Director of North Herts Pride: Politics can seem really big, intimidating and scary, but I think one of the most empowering things that I have learnt this year is that it doesn’t have to be. It doesn’t have to all be in Parliament, in Westminster, and whilst the ordinary person cannot change the world, home is a good place to start. Local politics enables everyday people to start close to home. To do what they can, to do the small steps, so we can make change, we can fight for difference.
Dylan Rees-Coshan, Local Hero and MYP for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole: “Young people, not only in my area, but also nationwide have little idea of what to expect with politics when they can eventually vote at 18. To help you and I, it is paramount that we have proper democratic education taught within schools as part and parcel of the curriculum.”
