Blocking the Noise, our new guide to digital safety for political candidates, is out now

Did you know that 96 per cent of current MPs have personally experienced one or more incidents of threatening behaviour or communication? When MPs were asked, ‘What makes you feel most at risk?’ the most common reply was ‘online abuse.’ Threats of harm also disproportionately affect women, minority ethnic and disabled MPs.

The run-up to nationwide elections in May sees the publication of our new toolkit, ‘Blocking the Noise, The Political Candidate’s Guide to Digital Safety.’ Developed by us in partnership with the Welsh Government, Elect Her, Disability Wales, Race Equality First and the Jo Cox Foundation, it’s a vital guide to help manage online intimidation, abuse and digital safety.

With this new guide, we are focused on building a digital world where the bravery to stand for office is met with safety and respect, rather than hate and abuse. Our guide will help candidates prepare for the realities of campaigning in a digital world. From managing online abuse to staying safe and confident online, it shares practical advice and insights to support all candidates throughout the campaign journey.

You can access the guide, which is available in English, Welsh and in Easy Read versions of both languages, here.
