In the UK, before you can have your full driving license you should first pass your UK theory test. It may sound easy to pass the test but there are still people who fail it. To help you ace your UK theory test, we have come up with the following tips:
-
Book the test
It is basic but many people tend to ignore it. When booking your theory test, you have to make sure your provisional license is ready along with your preferred payment method.
-
Pay attention to the books
The theory test is comprised of 50 multiple choice questions from over 1,000 questions. To pass the test, you need to get at least 43 correct answers. A handbook will be given to you which contains sample questions and tips for passing the exam.
-
Hazard perception test
If you pass the multiple-choice exam, the next step is the hazard perception test, which consists of a series of video clips that feature different driving hazards.
-
Study and practice
Put in the hours for study and practice. Keep in mind that the theory test questions are random. Out of 1,000 possible questions, there are only 50 of them that should be picked. This goes to show that you need to learn by heart what’s in the theory test handbook. On the hazard perception test, you need to get 44 out of 75.
-
Take a mock test
Fortunately, you can take a mock test which only provides the multiple-choice questions. By taking the mock test, you can gauge your confidence level in taking the test. If the result doesn’t go well, then you can reschedule the test.
-
Be mindful with time
On the day of the test, make sure you arrive 30 minutes prior to the set time. This is to avoid any stress that could affect your performance.
-
Have a provisional license photo card
It is important to have a photo card driving license with you on the day of the test. Without it, you won’t be able to take the test, but will still be required to pay for the test.
-
Take advantage of practice time
Prior to the test, you will be given 15 minutes of practice time. It is to get used to the touch screen and the format of questions. Make sure you use your time wisely. Check everything to find out if something isn’t working properly. If so, then you have to report immediately.
-
Observe safety precautions
We are all aware of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. If you are scheduled to take the theory test despite the skyrocketing number of COVID-19 positive patients, make sure you observe all preventive measures such as washing your hands for 20 seconds before and after the test. Objects that are frequently touched should be cleaned and disinfected using standard cleaning products. You have to include the surfaces, especially those touched regularly. If you don’t have access to water and soap, you can use alcohol or any hand sanitizers with at least 60% to 70% alcohol content.
